Wig density explained
Density is how much hair is on the cap: the higher the percentage, the fuller and heavier the wig.
Step by step
- 150% looks natural and light.
- 180% is a full, everyday look.
- 200% and 250% add visible volume.
- 300% is the fullest, glam look.
- The weight table on each wig shows how grams change with length and density.
What 150% and 180% density look like
150% is the lightest density we offer. It lies flat at the roots, moves freely and tapers slightly toward the ends, like hair that has grown out naturally. It suits bobs and shorter lengths, first wigs, petite frames and hot weather. On very long straight hair it can look thin at the ends.
180% adds visible body without looking overdone. The crown looks fuller, the ends stay thick down to mid-back lengths, and waves and curls keep their shape. It is the easy middle choice: full enough for photos, light enough to wear all day, and the one to pick if you are unsure.
Both read as natural hair on a lace front: the hairline is not overloaded, so the part and the edges look believable with little plucking.
What 200%, 250% and 300% density look like
200% looks like thick, healthy hair: no scalp shows through the lengths, long hair stays full to the ends, and a deep side part has volume on both sides. It is a full everyday look, and at 26 inches and longer it keeps straight hair from thinning out at the ends.
250% and 300% are glam densities, made for photos, events and big, bold styles. 250% keeps very long lengths full to the tips and gives curls serious volume; 300% is the fullest we offer, a thick, heavy look. Both weigh noticeably more and feel warmer, and the extra hair at the front can make the hairline look dense: ask us about a pre-plucked hairline, which depends on the hair batch, or pluck a few hairs yourself.
How to choose a wig density by length, texture and wear
Density works together with everything else you pick. These rules of thumb help:
- Length: short wigs and bobs look right at 150% or 180%; at 26 inches and longer, 200% or more keeps the ends from looking thin.
- Texture: straight hair shows density most plainly; waves and curls add visible volume, so the same percentage looks fuller.
- Hairline: the front shows density first; at 250% and 300%, a softened, lightly plucked hairline keeps a very full wig believable.
- Wear: for every day choose 150% to 200%; keep 250% and 300% for events and photos, when a few hours of extra weight do not matter.
- Comfort: every step up adds weight at the same length, so check the weight table before choosing a long, very full wig.
Questions
What does density mean in wigs?
Density is the amount of hair on the wig cap, given as a percentage. It is a relative scale set by wig makers, not a count of hairs: the higher the number, the more hair on the same cap, so the wig looks fuller and weighs more. Density does not change the length, the lace or the cap size. We offer 150%, 180%, 200%, 250% and 300%.
Is 180 density good for a wig?
Yes: 180% is the all-round density, full enough to look healthy and hold waves or curls, light enough to wear every day. It sits one step above the natural 150% and one below the fuller 200%. It suits most lengths from the shoulders to mid-back; on a bob 150% can look more natural, and from 26 inches on, 200% keeps straight ends thick.
What is a 250 density wig?
It is a wig with a lot of hair on the cap: 250% is our second-fullest density, just under 300%, made for big, glam volume. Long lengths stay full to the tips and curls look bold. The trade-off is weight and warmth, so check the weight for your length; to soften the dense front, ask us about a pre-plucked hairline, which depends on the hair batch, or pluck a few hairs yourself.
Is 200 density good for a wig?
Yes, when you want visible fullness that still reads as real hair. 200% looks like thick, healthy hair with no scalp showing through the lengths, and it keeps long wigs full down to the ends. It is a good everyday density from 22 inches up, and for curly textures that need body. On a short bob it can look heavy; 150% or 180% sits better there.
Where can I buy low density wigs?
Here: our lightest density is 150%, and the density options of each wig show on its page. A low density wig has less hair on the cap than the usual full wig, so it looks like natural, grown-out hair, with movement at the roots and a lighter feel on the head. Some shops sell even lighter densities; 150% is where ours start. Pick it for bobs, short lengths, hot weather and a first wig.
What is the best density for a wig?
The one that fits your length and how you wear it; there is no single best. For a natural everyday look choose 150% to 180%, and 150% for bobs. For long wigs worn daily, 180% to 200% keeps the ends full. For glam, events and big curls, 250% or 300%. If you are unsure, 180% is the safest middle choice for a human hair wig.
How many grams is a 180 density wig?
It depends on the length: weight grows with length and density, so there is no single number. At the same length, 180% weighs a little more than 150% and less than 200%. Each wig shows a weight table with the grams for every length and density, and before shipping we send you photos or a short video of your exact wig.
Which wig density looks most natural?
150% to 180% looks most like natural hair; higher densities are for a fuller, glam look.
