Lace Front Wig
Lace front wigs have a sheer lace base along the front hairline, so the hairline looks natural and the hair can be styled away from the face. Lace front wigs are the usual choice for natural-looking everyday wear and for styles that show the forehead.
Lace, density and length
Choose the lace size for how you part your hair, the density for fullness and the length for the look you want.
What is a lace front wig and how does it work?
A lace front wig has a strip of sheer lace along the front hairline, and every hair in that strip is knotted into the lace by hand. Behind it, the rest of the cap is sewn wefts, as on most wigs, and they carry the bulk of the volume. Once the wig is on, the lace lies flat on the forehead, so the hair seems to grow straight from your scalp.
The lace comes a little longer than you need: you trim it to your own hairline, then hold it down with adhesive, lace tape or, on a glueless wig, simply the band. In shop listings, frontal wig usually means this ear-to-ear lace, such as our 13x4 and 13x6; many of our styles can also be ordered as a 4x4 or 5x5 closure, with lace only at the part.
How to put on a lace front wig, step by step
The steps are the same for 13x4 and 13x6; the order is what matters, because you always cut the lace before any adhesive touches it.
- Prep: lay your hair in cornrows or a flat wrap, cover it with a wig cap close to your skin tone, and wipe the hairline with alcohol so adhesive grips.
- Place: put the wig on from front to back, line the lace up just ahead of your natural hairline, set the ear tabs in front of your ears and tighten the band.
- Trim: cut away the extra lace along your hairline while the wig sits in place.
- Secure: brush a thin layer of adhesive along the hairline, wait until it turns clear and tacky, then press the lace into it with a comb tail. With lace tape, stick the tape to the skin first, then lay the lace on it.
- Melt and style: tie a satin scarf over the edge for a few minutes, then set your part and baby hairs.
How to cut the lace on a lace front wig
Cut with the wig on your head, never on the stand: the lace only sits right when it is stretched over your own hairline. Clip the hair back so no strands get in the way, and use small, sharp scissors or a razor comb.
- Start at the center of the forehead and work toward one ear, then the other.
- Cut in small zigzag snips instead of one straight line; the uneven edge blends into the skin.
- Leave a thin sliver of lace in front of the first row of hair; cutting into the knots makes the hairline shed.
- Shape the ear tabs last, following the curve in front of each ear, or remove them if they bother you.
- With HD lace go slower: it is thinner and can tear if you pull while you cut.
HD lace and the details that make a lace front look natural
HD lace is thinner and finer than transparent lace, so its edge all but vanishes at close range and on camera; that is why it is chosen for hairlines people see up close. The trade-off is strength: it tears more easily, so trim it slowly and always lift it with remover.
- Bleached knots, a paid add-on where the style offers it: the knots are lightened so the part and hairline look like scalp instead of tiny dots.
- Pre-plucked hairline: the first rows are thinned for a softer edge; it depends on the hair batch in production, so ask us before you order.
- Concealer or tinted powder under the lace evens out the color if your scalp is darker than the lace.
- A few fine baby hairs at the edge, laid with a little edge control, finish the look.

Questions about these wigs
How do you make a lace frontal wig?
Sew a lace frontal and bundles onto a dome wig cap. Pin the cap to a canvas head, then place the 13x4 or 13x6 frontal along the hairline, ear to ear, and sew its edges to the cap. Sew the wefts in rows from the nape up with a curved needle and weaving thread, stopping where the lace begins. Cut away the cap under the lace, add a band and style. Ours are made ready to wear at the factory.
What is a lace front wig?
A lace front wig is a wig whose front hairline is sewn onto a sheer lace strip, with each hair knotted by hand, while the rest of the cap is wefts. The lace is trimmed to your hairline and secured, so the edge disappears against the skin. Ours are 100% human hair, from 16 to 32 inches in natural shades and from 12 inches in fashion colors.
What is a frontal wig?
A frontal wig is a lace front whose lace runs the full hairline from ear to ear, usually 13x4 or 13x6 inches, so you can part it anywhere across the front and wear it swept back. A closure wig, by contrast, has lace only in a small square at the part, 4x4 or 5x5, and is worn with the hair forward.
How do you put on a lace front wig?
Flatten your hair under a wig cap, clean the hairline with alcohol, and put the wig on from front to back with the lace just ahead of your hairline. Tighten the band, trim the extra lace in small zigzag snips, then secure the edge with adhesive or lace tape, or only the band on a glueless wig. Style the part last.
How do you install a lace front wig without glue?
Order the glueless add-on on a 13x4 or 13x6, or choose a 4x4 or 5x5 closure, which needs no adhesive as standard. The adjustable band holds the wig, and the drawstring add-on tightens it further. Trim the lace as usual, lay it flat with mousse or a wax stick, and tie a scarf over it for a few minutes.
How long do lace front wigs last?
About one to two years with good care; the lace usually wears out before the hair does. One glued install holds from several days to a few weeks, depending on the adhesive, your skin and how much you sweat. Lifting the lace with remover instead of pulling it, and keeping oils off the lace, add the most life.
How do you remove a lace front wig with glue?
Dissolve the adhesive; never pull. Soak the lace edge with adhesive remover, wait until the glue softens, then lift the lace slowly from the ear tabs toward the center. Clean the leftover glue off the lace and your skin with more remover, then wash the wig. Pulling lace off dry stretches it and tears out knots.
Can you reuse a lace front wig?
Yes. A human hair lace front can be installed and removed many times over its one to two years of life. Between wears, dissolve the old adhesive, wash and condition the hair, let it dry on a stand, and apply fresh adhesive or tape next time. The lace edge wears a little with each removal, so handle it gently.
How do you bleach the knots on a lace front wig?
The simplest way is to order bleached knots, a paid add-on where the style offers it, so it is done before the wig ships. At home, a bleach mix is dabbed on the underside of the lace only and rinsed off as soon as the knots lighten. Test a small spot first: left too long, bleach weakens the knots and they shed.
