99j Wig
The color
99J is a deep wine red with burgundy and plum tones. It shows more red in sunlight and reads as dark red indoors.
Who it flatters
Because 99J mixes red with plum, it adds color without the glare of bright red. On deep and medium brown skin it looks rich and warm, especially in daylight; on fair skin with cool or pink undertones the plum side reads elegant rather than loud. Olive skin wears it well too. Very sallow skin can look tired next to the plum; a warmer copper suits it better. Keep brows dark brown, since the wig reads dark indoors, and choose berry, plum or wine lipstick; orange-reds clash with it.
How to style it
99J changes most with light. Indoors, straight 99J can read almost black-cherry, with wine only where light hits; in sun it glows red-violet. Curly and wavy patterns show more color than straight, because every curl turns a lit side toward you. A side part or half-up style lifts the top layer into the light. In a bob, the color gathers at the jaw and frames the face. Lightened and dyed hair is more delicate, so use less heat than on 1B and always a protectant.
Care tips
Wash in cool water to keep the wine tone rich.
Red is the fastest color to fade, and 99J is no exception. Use a gentle, color-safe shampoo without sulfates and skip clarifying and anti-dandruff formulas, which strip red. Refresh the tone now and then with a burgundy color-depositing conditioner, left on for a few minutes. Sun turns it a dull brownish red, so store it away from windows and use a UV spray outdoors.
Dyeing and toning
Deeper is easy: 1B or a black-cherry dye covers 99J in one step, and a red or violet deposit makes it richer or more purple. Lighter is hard, because red pigment clings to the hair: brown takes a color remover and careful toning, and blonde from 99J is not realistic. Before a custom change, tell us whether you want the whole wig recolored or only the root or ends; we confirm the result and quote it before you pay.

Questions about these wigs
What color is 99J in wigs?
99J is a dark wine red: burgundy and plum over a deep base. Indoors it can look almost black-cherry; in sunlight the red-violet comes through clearly. It sits between the natural shades and fashion colors, dark enough for everyday wear but clearly colored up close. It comes in straight, wavy and curly textures, as lace fronts, closures and a straight bob.
Is 99J the same as burgundy?
No. 99J is darker and more plum, and it can pass for dark red or even black indoors. Burgundy is a brighter red-violet and stays visibly colored in any light. Choose 99J if you want color that shows mainly in the sun, and burgundy if you want it to show everywhere. Both are lightened, colored hair and need the same cool-water, color-safe care.
What is a 1B/99J wig?
A 1B/99J wig has natural black roots that melt into 99J wine lengths, like color grown out on purpose. The dark root keeps the part and hairline soft next to dark brows and makes the color look grown in rather than freshly applied. To get it on one of our 99J wigs, ask us before you order: the root is custom work, quoted before you pay.
Can you dye a 99J wig black?
Yes, and it is the easiest change for this shade. A deposit-only black or 1B dye covers wine in one application, since you are going darker. Work on clean, damp hair from ends to roots and keep dye off the lace. Some red may glint through in strong sun at first; a second pass after a few washes evens it out.
What is a dark 99J wig?
Dark 99J is a name for wine color on a deeper base, often with a 1B root, so it reads nearly black indoors and flashes wine in the sun. Our 99J already sits on the dark side of wine. If you want it deeper, or with a black root, ask us before you order; the change is quoted before you pay.
Does a 99J wig bleed when you wash it?
Yes, a little at first. Wine and red dyes release some pigment in the first few washes, so the water may run pink. Wash it alone in cool water, keep it away from light towels and pale clothing while damp, and rinse until the water runs nearly clear. Bleeding slows after a few washes; warm water restarts it, so keep every rinse cool.
Can you dye a 99J wig brown?
Yes, but not with brown dye alone, because red pigment shows through brown. First lift out some of the wine with a color remover, then apply a brown with a green or ash base, which cancels the leftover red. Strand-test first, since red rarely lifts evenly. Expect a warm, reddish brown rather than a cool one; for a clean brown, our #4 chocolate brown is the simpler route.
