The color

Grey is a cool silver-grey fashion shade. It gives an elegant, modern look and suits cool skin tones.

Who it flatters

Silver grey flatters cool, pink and neutral undertones most: on porcelain skin it looks soft and luminous, and on deep brown skin it makes a bold, graphic contrast. On warm, olive or golden skin, grey can drain color from the face, so add it back with blush and bronzer. Brows set the tone: on fair skin, jet-black brows look harsh under silver, so soften them to taupe or ash brown; on deep skin, natural dark brows look deliberate. Mascara and a rose or berry lip keep the face from fading into the hair.

How to style it

Shine decides how grey reads: glossy silver looks modern, while dry, matte grey looks flat, so finish with a clear serum rather than a yellow-tinted oil. Straight gives a polished, metallic sheet; body wave adds soft old-Hollywood glamour; deep wave mixes light and shadow into several tones of silver. As a bob of 10 to 16 inches (25 to 41 cm), grey looks sharp and editorial, cut blunt at the chin. Black, white, jewel tones and silver jewelry work with it; beige and camel can make it look dusty.

Care tips

A purple shampoo now and then keeps grey from turning yellow.

The silver in a grey wig is a thin layer of cool pigment over very pale hair, and water slowly washes it out, so every wash counts: wash only when needed, in cool water, with a gentle shampoo without sulfates, and condition the ends, which dry out first on lightened hair. Pool water can tint silver greenish, so soak the hair in fresh water and conditioner before a swim. Store the wig covered, away from sunlight and dust, which dull silver quickly.

Dyeing and toning

Grey is made on very pale, lightened hair, so it takes new tones easily: a silver toner refreshes it, a semi-permanent deepens it to charcoal or gunmetal, and lavender, pink or blue over it come out soft and smoky. Any brown or black covers it in one step. Going back to a clean blonde is uncertain, because grey dye does not always lift out evenly. For a custom shade like a darker smoky root or a salt-and-pepper mix, send us a photo and we quote it before you pay.

Questions about these wigs

How do you keep a grey wig from turning yellow?

Use a purple shampoo or mask every few washes and keep the wig away from what yellows it. Purple pigment cancels yellow: leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse in cool water; too long and silver turns lilac. Smoke, hard water, strong sun, hot tools and yellow-tinted products all cause yellowing, so store the wig covered and rinse with filtered water if yours is hard.

What is the difference between a grey and a silver wig?

Mostly depth and shine. Grey covers the range from light to dark; silver is the light, cool, reflective end of it, with a metallic sheen. Our grey is a silver grey: cool and even, light enough to catch light like metal but with enough depth to look full rather than white. For a white-silver or a darker charcoal, ask us about a custom shade.

How do you dye a blonde wig grey?

Start from a very pale blonde such as 613 and tone it silver: grey only looks clean when almost no yellow is left. Apply a silver or ash toner, or a grey semi-permanent, in sections and check it every few minutes, because pale hair grabs pigment fast. A golden blonde turns greenish or muddy under grey, so it needs more lightening first.

Is there a grey curly wig?

Yes: the curliest texture in grey is deep wave, with tight, close-set waves that read as curls. It gives the most volume, and the pattern hides the slight frizz that lightened hair can show better than straight does. Body wave is the looser option, and straight the sleekest. Tighter patterns in grey are a custom order; ask us for a quote.

Do you have a grey bob wig in human hair?

Yes: a straight grey bob in 100% human hair, from 10 to 16 inches (25 to 41 cm), with 13x4 transparent lace. Roughly, 10 inches falls around the chin and 16 inches just past the shoulders. A bob is also the easiest grey to keep fresh: with less hair, purple shampoo and conditioner reach every strand quickly.

Can you curl or flat iron a grey wig?

Yes, at low to moderate heat with a heat protectant. Grey and silver hair yellow under high heat, so stay well below the usual 180 °C (350 °F) limit for human hair, and make one slow pass rather than several hot ones. Curl it cold-set if you can: pin curls or flexi rods on damp hair give waves with no heat at all.

Do you have long grey wigs?

Yes: our grey lace fronts go from 12 up to 32 inches (30 to 81 cm), in straight, body wave and deep wave, all with 13x4 transparent lace. Long silver hair shows the most shine and movement, but it weighs more; every wig page lists the weight for each length. Between wears, keep long lengths in a loose braid so the ends do not tangle at the nape.

Which textures come in Grey?
