What to know

Colored wigs are made from hair that has been lightened and toned, so they need a little more care than natural black: wash with cool water and a mild shampoo, and let them air-dry. Colors that are digital previews are labeled on each photo, and before shipping we send real photos of your exact wig. Other colors can be made on request.

How colored human hair wigs are made

Most human hair used for wigs is naturally dark, so every lighter shade starts with lightening. For 613 blonde the hair is lifted very light and toned to honey blonde; for 350 copper, to a warm middle level; for 99J wine and burgundy, only a little before it is dyed with red and violet.

Highlight shades mix a brown base with lightened strands, honey blonde in 4/27, P4/27 and M4/27 and copper in M4/350, so only part of the hair is processed. Blue, pink and purple are dyed over hair lifted close to blonde, and grey needs a very light lift before it is toned silver.

Lightening opens the hair cuticle, so colored hair is more porous than natural black: it dries out faster and loses a little color with every wash. That is why colored wigs need lower heat and more conditioner, and why going darker later is easy while going much lighter has limits.

How to choose a wig color for your skin tone

Look at your undertone, not only at how light or deep your skin is. If the veins on your wrist look green, you are probably warm; blue or purple, cool; hard to tell, neutral.

  • Warm undertones: copper 350, M4/350 copper highlights, 4/27 honey highlights and 613 blonde echo the warmth in your skin.
  • Cool undertones: burgundy, 99J wine, grey and purple, whose violet and silver notes do not bring out redness the way copper can.
  • Neutral undertones: almost every shade works, so choose by upkeep; P4/27 piano highlight is a soft first step into color.
  • Contrast: deep skin carries 613 blonde and vivid fashion colors beautifully; on any skin, a brown base with highlights is the gentlest way to wear a light shade.
  • Brows: a shade within two or three levels of your brows reads natural; further away reads as a statement, which is fine when that is the goal.

Blonde vs copper vs wine and burgundy vs highlights vs fashion colors

Each color family wears differently from day to day, so compare them by upkeep as much as by look.

  • 613 blonde: the brightest and the most delicate. It shows every tangle and product residue, and sun or hard water can turn it brassy.
  • 350 copper: warm and eye-catching, but red pigment fades faster than brown or blonde, so it drifts toward a lighter ginger over time.
  • 99J wine and burgundy: easy bold colors for every day, because they read dark indoors and fade gently toward a softer red.
  • Highlights (4/27, P4/27, M4/27, M4/350): the gentlest step from natural hair; the brown base hides wear and only the light strands need extra care.
  • Fashion colors (blue, pink, purple, grey): the boldest look and the most upkeep; blue, pink and purple fade fastest, and grey can turn yellow without a purple shampoo.

How to care for a colored human hair wig

Colored hair follows the same routine as any human hair wig, with a few changes:

  • Use a mild shampoo and conditioner made for colored hair, condition at every wash and add a hair mask now and then; lightened hair dries out faster.
  • Keep heat below the 180 °C (350 °F) you would use on natural black, always with a protectant; blonde, grey and pastel shades scorch and yellow first.
  • Wash reds and fashion colors on their own in cool water, because they can bleed onto towels, lace and lighter wigs.
  • Sun, chlorine and salt water fade and dry color: cover it in strong sun and keep it out of pools.
  • Store it in a bag or box away from light; a wig left on a stand by a window fades on the side facing the light.
  • Every few washes, a purple shampoo keeps 613 and grey from turning yellow, and a color-depositing conditioner revives copper, reds and fashion colors.

Custom colors and real photos before shipping

If the shade you want is not listed, such as a darker copper, an ash brown or a two-tone look, send us a reference photo before you order. We confirm whether it can be made and quote the extra cost and preparation time before you pay.

What can be reached depends on the starting hair. Going darker, adding red or copper, or putting a new tone over a 613 base is easy; very light shades such as platinum, icy white or pastels may not be reachable from dark hair without damaging it, and we tell you so up front.

Some photos on colored wigs are digital renderings labeled 'Color preview', so you can compare shades on the same style. Real hair can look warmer or cooler depending on the light, which is why we send photos or a short video of the exact piece before your wig ships: you see your wig itself, not a rendering.

Questions about this collection

What color wig should I get?

One that matches your undertone and the upkeep you are ready for. Warm undertones suit copper, honey highlights and golden blonde; cool undertones suit burgundy, 99J wine, grey and purple; neutral undertones can wear almost anything. For a first colored wig, a highlight such as 4/27 or P4/27 keeps a brown base that looks natural at the part and needs less care than full blonde or a fashion color.

Can you dye a human hair wig?

Yes. Human hair takes dye like your own hair: going darker or warmer is easy, while going lighter needs bleach, and very light shades may not be reachable from dark hair. Use a professional dye rather than box dye, keep it off the lace and deep-condition afterward. If you would rather not do it yourself, we can make custom colors to order, quoted before you pay.

How do you dye a human hair wig?

On a stand, in sections, after a strand test. Wash and dry the wig first, test the dye on a small piece at the nape, and protect the lace with conditioner or plastic wrap. Apply the color section by section, stopping short of the lace, follow the timing on the dye, then rinse in cool water until it runs clear and condition well before air-drying.

Can you dye a colored wig a different color?

Usually yes, within limits: going darker or deeper is easy, and a light base such as 613 blonde takes almost any shade. Lifting a vivid fashion color back to a light natural shade may not be possible. Strand-test first, keep the dye off the lace, rinse in cool water and condition well; for a custom shade, ask us before you order.

How do you dye a wig with highlights?

Color only the strands you want lighter and protect the rest. Section thin pieces with a tail comb, lay each on foil, apply lightener or dye and fold the foil so the color does not touch the hair around it. Face-framing pieces give the most effect for the least work. Or skip the dye: 4/27, P4/27, M4/27 and M4/350 come highlighted from the factory.

Can you dye a blonde wig black?

Yes, going darker is the easy direction. Lightened hair is porous, though, and black put straight onto pale blonde can look flat, hollow or patchy, so colorists often fill it first with a warm red or gold tone and then apply the dark shade. Do a strand test, keep the dye off the lace and expect some color to rinse out in the first washes.

Do colored wigs fade?

Yes, a little with every wash, and faster the more the hair was lightened. Reds, copper and fashion colors fade first; 613 blonde stays light but can turn brassy. Cool water, fewer washes, a color-safe shampoo and keeping the wig out of strong sun slow it down, and a color-depositing conditioner brings the tone back between colorings.

Are the colors in the photos real?

Yes, with one clear exception: images labeled 'Color preview' are digital renderings, made so you can compare shades on the same style. Product photos are retouched for consistent light and background, and screens show color differently, so before your wig ships we send photos or a short video of the exact piece. If a shade is close but not quite what you want, ask about a custom color before you order.

Can I get a color that is not listed?

Usually yes: human hair can be dyed or bleached to order, though very light shades may not be reachable; ask us before ordering and we confirm the color, cost and extra time.
