13x4 Lace Front
A 13x4 lace front has lace across the whole front hairline, 13 inches ear to ear and 4 inches deep. You can part the hair anywhere along the front and wear it swept back.
Glueless
It can be ordered glueless with the glueless add-on at checkout; otherwise it is secured with adhesive, tape or a band.
What is a 13x4 lace front wig?
The numbers describe the lace, not the wig. 13 inches (33 cm) is the width of the lace across the forehead, from just in front of one ear to the other. 4 inches (10 cm) is how far the lace reaches back from the hairline toward the crown. Inside that panel every strand is knotted by hand into the lace, so the hair seems to grow straight from the skin along the whole front hairline.
Behind the lace, the rest of the cap is made of sewn wefts that carry most of the hair and volume. In daily wear a 13x4 gives you a natural hairline from temple to temple and about four inches of parting space. Depending on the style it comes in transparent or HD lace, and our bob wigs are built on 13x4 or 13x6 lace too.
Where can you part a 13x4 wig?
Any part that starts at the hairline and stays inside the first four inches looks like real scalp. Past that point the part runs into the wefts, so the hair has to fall over it and hide the line.
- Middle part: the most natural look on a 13x4, because the whole four inches of lace show as scalp down the center.
- Side part: start it above the arch or the tail of the eyebrow and run it straight back; it stays within the lace.
- Swept back or slicked back: the ear-to-ear lace does the work, and the hairline stays visible and natural at the temples.
- Long, dramatic side part running further back than four inches: the line would reach the wefts, so choose a 13x6 for this style.
Installing a 13x4: getting the front edge right
On a 13x4 everything happens at the front edge: 13 inches of lace have to follow your hairline from ear to ear without wrinkles. Place the center first, lined up with the middle of your nose, then the ears, with the lace sitting just ahead of your own hairline. Tighten the anti-slip band before you touch the lace, so nothing shifts while you work.
Trim the lace to the shape of your hairline, then secure it with adhesive or lace tape, pressing from the center out toward each temple so the lace does not bunch. Tie a scarf over the edge for a few minutes to melt the lace into the skin. If you order the glueless add-on you skip the adhesive: the band holds the wig, and a little mousse or a wax stick lays the lace flat.
13x4 vs 13x6 vs closure: which lace do you need?
A 13x4 is the balanced choice: a full ear-to-ear hairline with enough parting room for most everyday styles. Move to another size when your style asks for it.
- Pick 13x4 for middle parts, moderate side parts and swept-back looks, worn every day.
- Pick 13x6 when you wear a long, deep side part, flip your part from side to side or show a lot of the top of the head.
- Pick a 4x4 or 5x5 closure when you want the quickest glueless wig and wear the hair down around the face; the part stays in the center area.
- Pick HD lace if the hairline is seen up close or on camera; transparent lace is sturdier if you install and remove the wig often.
Questions about these wigs
What is a 150 density 13x4 wig?
It is a 13x4 lace front made with 150% density, the lightest amount of hair we offer. The lace gives a natural hairline from ear to ear with about four inches of parting space; the density keeps the wig light, with soft movement and ends that taper like grown-out hair. It suits bobs, shorter lengths, first wigs and warm weather. On very long straight lengths, 180% keeps the ends fuller.
What is the difference between a 7x5 and a 13x4 wig?
Where the lace ends. A 7x5 is a wide closure, usually sold glueless, about 7 inches across the front and 5 inches deep: it covers more of the hairline than a 4x4 or 5x5 but stops short of the ears. A 13x4 is a lace front running ear to ear and 4 inches deep, so the temples look natural when you sweep the hair back. Our closest glueless option is the 5x5 closure.
What does a 13x4 wig mean?
It means the lace measures 13 inches across the forehead, ear to ear, and 4 inches back from the hairline. Those numbers only describe the lace area: they tell you how much of the hairline looks natural and how far back you can part the hair. The cap size is separate; ours is one size with an adjustable band.
Is a 13x4 wig small?
No. 13x4 is the size of the lace, not of the wig. The cap is one size, about 22.5 inches (57 cm) around, with an adjustable anti-slip band that tightens or loosens the fit, the same cap you get with a 13x6 or a closure. If your head measures well above or below that, ask us before you order.
What does a 13x4 wig look like?
From the front it looks like hair growing from your own hairline across the whole forehead, from ear to ear. You see natural scalp along the first four inches of the part; behind that, the hair falls over the wefts. With a middle or moderate side part it looks the same as a 13x6; the difference only shows with a very long side part.
How do you install a 13x4 lace front wig?
Start with a flat base: braid or wrap your hair, add a wig cap and wipe the hairline with alcohol. Set the wig, tighten the band, and cut the lace in small zigzag snips along your hairline. Then secure the front edge with adhesive, lace tape or, with the glueless add-on, just the band, and style the part last.
How do you style a 13x4 wig?
Set the part first, anywhere within the first four inches: a middle part or a side part above the eyebrow arch looks most natural. Because the lace runs ear to ear, you can also wear the hair swept back, half up or in a low ponytail with the hairline showing. Save long, dramatic side parts for a 13x6.
What does a 180 density 13x4 wig mean?
It means two separate choices: 180% density and 13x4 lace. 180% is a full, everyday amount of hair, between the lighter, natural 150% and the glam 200% to 300%; 13x4 is the size of the lace. Density changes volume and weight, not the hairline, and the weight table on each wig shows the grams by length.
What is a 13x4 closure wig?
There is no true 13x4 closure: 13x4 always means a lace front, because the lace runs 13 inches along the hairline. Closures are smaller patches, 4x4 or 5x5, that only cover the parting area. If a listing says 13x4 closure, it is a frontal. If you want the quicker glueless style, look at our 4x4 and 5x5 closure wigs.
Can a 13x4 Lace Front wig be glueless?
It can be ordered glueless with the glueless add-on at checkout; otherwise it is secured with adhesive, tape or a band.
